How to set up 2-Step Verification on your Gmail – a step by step guide
Google allows you to set up 2-step verification on your Gmail in order to make your Gmail account impregnable. This is one of the features that mark Gmail different from most email services, however, this is not restricted to Google products only.
The 2-step verification also known as two-factor authentication or 2FA, adds a second layer of security. When enabled on your Gmail, you will receive a second option of verification upon any login attempt to your Gmail account.
How does the 2-step verification work?
The 2-step verification is an extra layer of security that helps to prevent other people from having access to your Gmail account, even if they have your password. It is an identity verification method used to send you a message containing a random 6-digit code anytime there is a login attempt to your Gmail.
The system of verification works by sending a one-time security code which is typical to the one-time password (OTP). This second layer password is only valid per time, this implies that a new one is generated each time a new login attempt is made.
Additionally, you can either receive the security code through one of these ways: By text or voice call through your mobile phone; it depends on your setup.
